Girivalam is a monthly Holy walk performed on the ‘Pournami’ Full Moon Day around the Tiruvannamalai ‘Hill’ the Giri. Unlike other circum ambulation which are usually performed around a deity or a sanctum sanctorum Girivalam is performed around the Tiruvannamalai hill which is itself Lord Shiva.

Darshan might take 4 to 5 hours on Pournami Girivalam (Giripradakshinam) day. Four entrances are available to start Giripradakshina. Darshan Waiting Time: 5- 6 hours. Crowd will be high on these days. It is going to be normal darshan for all on these dates.

Yes, girivalam can be done by day or night. Others are usually there till about 11 pm.This is an ideal time to do it as weather is pleasant in the evening. aim is to enjoy the circumbulation in a spirit of total surrender. Give about 4 hours to 4 hrs 30 mins as there are many small temples and temple tanks you may feel like visiting en route.
